Simmer Down Summer

“I can’t believe it’s already July”

If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone say this in the last few days we could all buy a boat and sail away from our crazy schedules. We are living in a busy busy world and yes, time is flying….but what if….what if we paused. Sipped the lemonade, let the sun beat down on our faces with closed eyes and the sound of the kids in the sprinkler. What if we slip and slid right into our swimsuits, no matter how faded or tight and jumped into summer, slowly and intentionally.

When we slow down we give ourselves permission to relax, recharge and rejuvenate. We allow ourselves to let go of the need for constant productivity and achievement and instead, focus on simply being present in the moment.

Sounds nice right? Well it’s even more than that… slowing down, can have a profound impact on our mental and physical health, reducing stress levels boosting our mood and improving our overall well-being. And let’s not forget about that Vit D boost. Heck yes. To all of this!

Let’s trade in our date books for a date with our patio furniture. Kick up those feet and watch the birds fly. Let the heat of the day slowly fade into the heat of the grill and then into the cool, calm of a lake side car ride at dusk, windows down, ice cream cone in hand (double scoop, cookie dough in a sugar cone please)

Let your worries fade away and remember that we’re all here for a short time and the hustle and bustle of fall and winter is peaking around the corner, just waiting to wipe off your coconut sunscreen, sun-kissed skin, selfishly replacing it with long sleeves and long days.

“Lazy summer days” is not just a quote on your front porch swing pillow… it is a necessity to our wellbeing and is natures way of giving us a gift. A very sunny, warm, relaxing, gift.

XO Jonelle
